Description
In the field of astrophysics, in 2017 Júlia carried out an observational project on RR Lyrae stars at the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias. In 2020, she was awarded a summer scholarship funded by the Spanish Institute of High Energy Physics to work on the online analysis of the MAGIC telescopes. During the summer of 2022, she completed her Physics undergraduate thesis at the Institute of Space Sciences, focusing on exoplanet detection and stellar kinematics. The following year, she received a summer scholarship funded by the Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron to evaluate and estimate the performance and monitoring capabilities of CTAO telescopes for gamma-ray astronomy.
In a more interdisciplinary field, she was awarded an Amgen Scholarship in 2021 to conduct research on magnetic resonance imaging at the Wolfson Brain Imaging Centre at the University of Cambridge.
In addition, in 2023 she received a WONNOW Award from CaixaBank and Microsoft, which enabled her to work full-time for six months on artificial intelligence and machine learning projects at CaixaBank Advanced Business Analytics. Following that award, she was offered the opportunity to complete her undergraduate thesis in Mathematics, focusing on transformers applied to banking, for which she received a grade of 100/100.
Combining her academic background and interest in astrophysics, data analysis, machine learning and research, she began a PhD in Astronomy in October 2024 as part of the Centres for Doctoral Training (CDT) programme in Data Intensive Science at the University of Cambridge. Her PhD is funded by the postgraduate fellowship abroad from the ”la Caixa” Foundation, the Wolfson College PhD studentship for Women in Physical Sciences, and a partial studentship from the University of Cambridge’s CDT programme.
