Description
Gonzalo has always been driven by a deep curiosity for science which, combined with a childhood spent in a medically oriented environment, ultimately led to his decision to study Biomedical Engineering at Universitat Pompeu Fabra. It was there that he also discovered his interest in artificial intelligence and how it is transforming the world of medicine in its digital revolution.
He is particularly drawn to its application in hospital settings and neuroengineering. Although he has yet to make his “debut” in the former, his internships with the Theoretical and Cognitive Neuroscience research group at Universitat Pompeu Fabra and the Neuroimaging group at the BarcelonaBeta Brain Research Center – including his thesis work – have provided him with a solid foundation in deep learning and its clinical applications.
He also has a strong interest in the ethical implications of using such algorithms in medicine, as well as in their interpretability. For this reason, he hopes that his specialisation at UCL will enable him to apply these powerful new technologies to improve people’s health and wellbeing.
Alongside some of his classmates, he co-hosts a podcast on biomedical engineering called The BME Podcast.
