Description

He is a Professor of Economics in the Department of Economic Analysis at the Complutense University of Madrid and a member of the ICAE, EQUALITAS and CEDESOG research groups. Between 2008 and 2010 he served as deputy assistant director general at the Institute of Fiscal Studies (Ministry of Finance). His research interests include economic inequality, individual opportunity, new technologies, and economic growth. He has published scientific articles in journals such as the Journal of Economic Theory, Journal of Development Economics, European Economic Review, The Scandinavian Journal of Economics, Regional Studies and Journal of Economic Inequality.

He has also been a visiting professor at universities including Yale, Oxford and Brown, as well as at the World Bank. He is currently co-editor of the Research on Economic Inequality series and editor of the Economics of Inequality handbook  for the Ramón Areces Foundation. His current projects examine the relationship between individual effort and personal circumstances, the impact of new technologies (AI and automation) on inequality, and the link between inequality and growth. He is the author of the study “The impact of new technologies on wage inequality in Spain”, published by the Social Observatory of the ”la Caixa” Foundation.
