Description
A ”la Caixa” Foundation fellow in 1997, he received his PhD in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University. His research focuses on the fundamental principles of robotic control. He is particularly known for developing whole-body control, a methodology that enables humanoid robots to coordinate their entire body to perform complex tasks. His work also encompasses task and motion planning, human–robot interaction, and advanced experimental validation of robotic systems.
He is the author or co-author of more than 200 scientific publications in leading international journals and conferences, and holds an h-index of 35. He has also held a number of academic leadership positions, including directing the Good Systems initiative at the University of Texas at Austin, which focuses on integrating ethical principles into technological development.
His research has been supported by organisations such as NASA, the National Science Foundation (NSF), the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) and the United States Space Force (USSF), as well as private companies. He is also a founding member and innovation advisor for Apptronik Systems, a company specialising in human-centred robotic products.
