Description

Maite graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Navarra (1996), specialising in neurology (MIR) at the Donostia Hospital. She completed her doctoral thesis at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and continued her training at the Vall d'Hebron Research Institute (2006-2010). From 2010 to 2012 she completed her training in neuroepigenetics with a stay as a visiting researcher at Columbia University (New York, USA).

She was research coordinator at the Neurology Service of the University Hospital of Navarra (HUN), where she developed her activity in the field of neurodegenerative diseases. She has coached residents, supervised four doctoral theses and 12 national and international competitive projects that have resulted in 98 scientific publications. She was awarded the Alberto Rábano National Prize for the best thesis in neuroscience by the Foundación Romanillos (2011). In 2018, she was appointed an honorary member of the European Council of Doctors and received the 2018 TELVA Award for science, and in 2021 was listed in the Top 100 Women Leaders in Spain. She is currently the director of Navarrabiomed - Miguel Servet Foundation and continues in her role as principal investigator of the centre's Neuroepigenetics Unit.
