Description

After graduating in Biochemistry from the University of Córdoba (Argentina) and specialising in Molecular Biology at the Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology in London, Gabriel Rabinovich obtained his PhD in Immunology from the University of Córdoba.

He is a senior researcher at the National Scientific and Technical Research Council (CONICET) and professor of Immunology at the School of Exact and Natural Sciences of the University of Buenos Aires. He is also a member of several scientific academies, including the United States National Academy of Sciences (NAS) and The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS).

He is also the co-founder and scientific leader of Galtec, a biotechnology company that aims to make treatments derived from galectin-based discoveries accessible to the population, within the framework of immunotherapeutic strategies against cancer and autoimmune inflammation. In addition, he leads a new research group at the ”la Caixa” Foundation’s CaixaResearch Institute, whose aim is to generate new knowledge focused on the immunology of diseases.

His work has paved the way for new therapeutic possibilities in cancer and autoimmune diseases, earning him several prestigious awards. Notable among them are the TWAS Prize in Medical Sciences (Italy), the John Guggenheim Fellowship (United States), the Mizutani Foundation for Glycoscience Award (Japan) and the Cancer Research Institute Award (United States).

Rabinovich has published more than 300 articles, many of them in high-impact scientific journals such as Cell, Nature, and Nature Immunology, and has delivered over 400 lectures.
