Description

Ilkka Tuomi is a theoretical physicist and holds a PhD in Philosophy from the University of Helsinki, specialising in knowledge management. His approach combines ethics, technology, critical thinking and a commitment to human learning, making him a strategic partner for organisations seeking to implement artificial intelligence in a socially responsible way.

Since 2005, he has led Meaning Processing Ltd., an independent research initiative that promotes ethical and human-centred approaches to technological development. Previously, he was a principal scientist at the Nokia Research Center for over a decade, a visiting researcher at UC Berkeley and a member of the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC).

He is the author of books such as Corporate Knowledge (1999), a key work in the field of organisational knowledge, and Networks of Innovation (2002), in which he proposes a theory of open innovation based on the analysis of internet networks and open-source code. In recent years, he has also co-authored strategic reports for the European Commission on the impact of artificial intelligence on education and has worked as an ethics consultant on AI for the European Union.
