Description

Ignasi Cristià began his career as a set and costume designer, collaborating with professionals such as Santiago Pericot, Ramon B. Ivars, Joaquim Roy and Marcelo Grande.

His first work in the field of set design was the costumes for La fille mal gardée, a ballet by Ferdinand Hérold and John Lanchbery performed at the Wrocławska Opera (Wroclaw, Poland) in 1991, with choreography by Barbara Kasprowicz. In the following years, he designed the set for the Spanish-Colombian production Amores difíciles, at the Manizales International Theatre Festival, and for the concert El cor del temps, by María del Mar Bonet, at the Palau Sant Jordi in Barcelona. In 1997, he also designed the set for Romy and July, a version of the ballet Romeo and Juliet at the Grec Festival in Barcelona. This production won the City of Barcelona Award in the Performing Arts category. In 2023, he created the nativity scene in Plaça Sant Jaume in Barcelona.

In the field of dramaturgy, in 2022 he was the stage director of the new production of Un ballo in maschera at the Varna Opera Theatre (Bulgaria) and of the revival of the monodrama Medea, by Ambrosi Carrión and Joan Manén, at L’Auditori in Barcelona.

He has designed the exhibition spaces for the Museu Memorial de l’Exili in La Jonquera and the new Museu del Port in Tarragona. He has collaborated with institutions, museums and organisations such as the Musée de Montmartre, the Musée de la Résistance d’Isère, the Palais Lumière Evian, the Prague Quadrennial of Performance Design and Space, the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya, the Museo Nacional de Escultura in Valladolid and the Museo Arqueológico Nacional, among others. He is responsible for the staging of the exhibition The Worlds of Alice. Dreaming of Wonderland at CaixaForum.
