Description

Carles Berga graduated in Architecture from Ramon Llull University in 2005. He combined his studies with set design, working with La Fura dels Baus, Alfons Flores, Lluís Danés and Franc Aleu. He made his debut in 2013 at the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires with Wagner’s Tetralogy, directed by Valentina Carrasco. He later created ephemeral spaces for opera, cinema, museums, large-scale events, installations and concerts.

Among his most recent projects we could highlight the set design for the inauguration of the America’s Cup (Bogatell beach, Barcelona), Nixon in China (Opéra Bastille, Paris), La fanciulla del West (Teatro Regio di Torino), Turandot (Gran Teatre del Liceu, Barcelona), Aida (Sferisterio, Macerata), La Favorite (Teatro Donizetti, Bergamo), Il Flauto Magico (Teatro Verdi, Trieste), The Turn of the Screw (Opéra National de Lyon), Proserpina (Teatro dell’Opera di Roma), and La Bella Dormente nel Bosco (Opéra National du Rhin, Strasbourg).

This year, he was responsible for designing the Interior Berlanga exhibition at CaixaForum. He currently combines his work as a set designer and architect with artistic projects in video installation and sculpture. He has a permanent exhibition of his sculptural piece Doble cruz (Double Cross) at Montjuïc Castle in Barcelona.
