Enrique Baca-García is Professor of Psychiatry at the
Autonomous University of Madrid and Corporate Head of the Department of
Psychiatry and Clinical Psychology at the Quirónsalud group, which is integrated
into the Madrid Health Service. He is the leader of the project Prevent
suicide – CaixaResearch 2023, funded with
nearly one million euros.
Born in Pamplona in 1968, he graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the Autonomous University of Madrid in 1992 and obtained his PhD in Medicine at the University of Alcalá in 1998. He trained as a specialist in Psychiatry at the Ramón y Cajal Hospital (1995–1999) and pursued postdoctoral studies at both the University of Alcalá and Columbia University (USA), where he was adjunct associate professor from 2006 to 2017.
He has published over 350 scientific articles, 70% of them as lead author, and has contributed chapters to 61 books. He has edited seven books, including Behavioral Neurobiology of Suicide and Self-Harm (Springer, 2020). He has supervised more than 60 doctoral theses, many of them with international distinction and several award-winning. He has been a mentor in various research programmes: Río Hortega, Juan de la Cierva, Juan Rodés, Marie Skłodowska-Curie and the Requalification of the Spanish University System. In 2017, he received a Special Presidential Commendation from the American Psychiatric Association for his international leadership in research on suicidal behaviour.
He has taken part in more than 40 competitive research projects and maintains scientific collaborations with prestigious international universities and institutes such as Harvard, Pennsylvania, Columbia, Karolinska, McGill, Yale and UNAM, among others. He has also collaborated with engineering and mathematics institutions in Mexico, France and Spain.
Recognised for his clinical excellence, he appears on the Forbes list of the 100 best doctors in Spain. He has received 50 awards and honours, including recognition from the Spanish Society of Psychiatry, the European Psychiatric Association and the DomusVi Foundation for his innovative work in suicide prevention through mobile technology.

Rubèn López Vales
