Dr Miquel Casas has focused his professional career on the study and treatment of addictions, dual pathology, neurodevelopmental disorders and personality disorders throughout the life cycle. He graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (1974), specialised in Psychiatry (1978), and obtained his PhD in Medicine from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (1989).

He has been head of the Addictive Behaviour Unit at the Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau in Barcelona, head of the Psychiatry Service and Professor of Psychiatry at the Vall d'Hebron University Hospital in Barcelona, head of the Psychiatry, Mental Health and Addictions Group of the Vall d'Hebron Research Institute of Barcelona (VHIR) and director of the Corporate Programme “Neuropsychodevelopmental and Learning disorders throughout the life cycle” of the Institut Català de la Salut (ICS). He was also principal investigator of the G-27 group at the Centre for Biomedical Research in Mental Health Network (CIBERSAM) at the Carlos III Health Institute in Madrid, member of the Advisory Council of the Mental Health and Addictions of the Health Department of the Government of Catalonia and president of the Foundation for Dual Pathology.

He is currently Honorary Professor of Psychiatry at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and director of the SJD MIND Schools programme at the Hospital Sant Joan de Déu in Barcelona. He is also a member of the Public Health Advisory Council of the Health Department of the Government of Catalonia, president of the Sant Pau Research Foundation (FISP) in Barcelona, honorary president of the Spanish Society of Dual Pathology and honorary member of the Royal Academy of Medicine of the Valencian Community. He is a member of the editorial board of several journals in the field of psychiatry and addictions, has received various national and international institutional awards and recognitions.
