Ana Escorza Santos
PhD in Astronomy and Astrophysics from the KU Leuven and postdoctoral researcher at the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias
Location
Santa Cruz de Tenerife
Description
She earned a degree in Physics from the University of Zaragoza in 2013, with a master’s degree in 2015 and PhD in 2020 in Astronomy and Astrophysics from the KU Leuven in Belgium, through a dual programme between the KU Leuven and the Université Libre de Bruxelles. Her PhD thesis focuses on the study of stars similar to the Sun, but with chemical peculiarities caused by the transfer of material between the two companion stars in double star systems.
Subsequently, she moved to Chile as a postdoctoral fellow at the European Southern Observatory. There, she spent a large part of her stay at the Paranal Observatory, as a support astronomer for two of the VLT telescopes and in charge of the UVES and ESPRESSO instruments. In 2023 she returned to Spain, thanks to the Postdoctoral Junior Leader - Incoming fellowship from the ”la Caixa” Foundation, where she joined the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias as a researcher.
