Description

He holds a degree in Biotechnology from the Universitat de Girona, where he was awarded the outstanding prize for the best academic performance of his class. In 2016, he commenced his research activity in the field of bioengineering with a one-year residency at the Chemical and Environmental Engineering Laboratory (LEQUIA) of the Universitat de Girona. During this period, he joined the communications department of the Association of Biotechnologists of Catalonia (ASBTEC).

From 2017 to 2019, he studied a master in Bioengineering at the Institut Químic de Sarrià (IQS) of the Universitat Ramon Llull, with an overall grade of excellent.

In 2019, he presented his master’s thesis at the Institute for Medical Engineering and Science of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where he obtained an honours degree. Between 2019 and 2020, he studied a master in Bioinformatics and Biostatistics at the UOC-UB, where he was part of the Translational Synthetic Biology Laboratory of the Universitat Pompeu Fabra, directed by Marc Güell.

In 2020, he was awarded a ”la Caixa” Foundation postgraduate fellowship abroad that took him to the Baker Lab of the University of Washington to study his PhD in Molecular Engineering under the supervision of David Baker, winner of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry 2024 for the design of new proteins and the incorporation of artificial intelligence in this process. Marc Expòsit is currently working on the design of cytokines, small proteins that regulate the growth and activity of other cells of the immune system, in order to be able to treat diseases such as cancer or autoimmune disorders.
