The new Strategic Plan presented by the ”la Caixa” Foundation for the period 2025-2030 will address three new lines of action to respond to the changing realities and needs of society.

  • Environmental sustainability, as a cross-cutting priority in all of the organisation’s areas of activity. Specific lines of action will also be considered to address the environmental impact on socially disadvantaged populations.
  • Mental health, as a growing challenge that significantly affects people’s lives. Factors such as lack of resources, stigma or the burden on families can hinder access to appropriate care, perpetuating situations of distress and social exclusion.
  • Longevity, following the sharp rise in life expectancy during the 20th century. The challenges for the 21st century lie in continuing to improve healthy longevity, ensuring care for older people and reducing inequality.

Internationalisation

The 2025-2030 Strategic Plan aims to position the ”la Caixa” Foundation as a key player on the global stage. Its objective is to enhance the organisation’s influence at the international level in order to respond to shared global challenges alongside other institutions and to maximise the impact of all its initiatives.

With this in mind, the Foundation will promote initiatives that seek to:

  • Place greater focus on Europe and take a leading role, together with other major European foundations, in shaping strategies to address common concerns.
  • Promote a stronger international presence to facilitate knowledge exchange and the adoption of best practices that can amplify the impact of its interventions.
  • Reassess the coordination model for all the Foundation’s international activities to ensure their strategic coherence.

Facilities to amplify the Foundation’s impact

During the implementation period of the new Strategic Plan, the construction of several facilities is expected to be completed. These will strengthen the Foundation’s presence across the territory and expand the impact of its work in the organisation’s three strategic areas of action:

  • CaixaResearch Institute, the first research centre in Spain specialising in immunology and one of the first in Europe, in which the ”la Caixa” Foundation will invest €100 million.
  • CaixaForum Málaga, which will be located in Plaza Manuel Azaña, aims to complement the city’s cultural offering, create green spaces in the surrounding area and transform the zone into a new hub for both physical and social revitalisation. The construction works represent an estimated investment of €30 million and the centre is expected to open its doors in 2027.
  • CaixaForum Tenerife, which will be located in the Viera y Clavijo Cultural Park, following its selection by the city council as a project to breathe new life into the space. The ”la Caixa” Foundation will invest around €2 million annually to provide content and establish the operational structure of the future centre.
  • ArtStudio CaixaForum, a centre that will bring together and promote the entire Contemporary Art Collection of the ”la Caixa” Foundation, located in the Cultural District of L’Hospitalet de Llobregat (Barcelona). The future ArtStudio CaixaForum Collection will represent an investment of €12 million.
  • TUMO Bilbao-Bizkaia, located in Azkuna Zentroa - Alhóndiga Bilbao, will be the first of its kind in Spain and will offer an innovative, creative learning model focused on STEAM skills for teenagers. Work to adapt the space will begin in September this year, and the centre is expected to open in 2026. The ”la Caixa” Foundation will invest approximately €10 million over the next four years.
