CaixaForum Barcelona will launch the new season by showing several masterpieces by Velázquez, including Mars and Prince Baltasar Carlos in Hunting Dress, in an exhibition jointly organised with the Prado Museum and aimed at linking the painter to his contemporaries among Spanish and international artists.

Toulouse-Lautrec will be another key name in the new season: an ambitious in-house production featuring more than 350 pieces will reveal the French artist’s role as a catalyst in the creative avant-garde explosion that began in the Parisian neighbourhood of Montmartre at around the turn of the twentieth century.

The artistic avant-gardes in the early decades of the twentieth century provide the theme for two more shows. The first is a major anthology, organised in cooperation with the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum, devoted to one of the most influential German artists of the last century, Max Beckmann. The second will bring together several leading figures from the early twentieth century through works from the IVAM Collection.

Once more, CaixaForum Barcelona will also present a project jointly organised with the British Museum. Luxury. From the Assyrians to Alexander the Great is an ambitious show that will bring a range of works to Barcelona, from large Assyrian sculptures to exquisite objects from the Oxus Treasure.

”la Caixa” Contemporary Art Collection will also occupy a leading place in the new season, providing the bases for two shows. Painting: The Permanent Challenge will bring together two generations of artists to explore the constant reinvention that characterises the painterly art, while Poetics of Emotion will focus on art’s ability to move us throughout the course of history.
