This exhibition offers an intimate and comprehensive portrait of Luis García Berlanga: from stereotypes to reality, from the most publicised to the unknown
Conceived as a sequence shot with a narrative thread in the style of his films, the exhibition will reveal unknown and moving stories about the life and work of Berlanga, one of the most international Spanish filmmakers and the author of a humorous and critical account of Spain in the second half of the 20th century.
The display will present a large part of his legacy, available thanks to the cataloguing, digitising and study of the personal archive of the director behind Bienvenido, Mister Marshall that the ”la Caixa” Foundation is carrying out in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture and the Filmoteca Española (Spanish Film Archive).
The content, the vast majority of which is unpublished, will be exhibited for the first time in Interior Berlanga by means of a cinematic staging. The journey will start with the filmmaker's most intimate aspects (his home, his family, his references) and will continue with his satirical vision of Spanish history, before delving into the characteristics and multiple nuances of his cinema. The final spaces of the exhibition will be devoted to Berlanga's legacy, the impact of his work and the imprint on us of his particular way of seeing the world.
