A victim of gender-based violence, when she was 30 years old Ana found herself living in a shack in a park. She managed to get by, but a new partner also abused her; she had to leave her daughter with social services and ended up homeless once more. Thanks to La Morada Housing First, a programme run by the AIRES association in collaboration with the ”la Caixa” Foundation, she managed to have a roof over her head again, regained custody of her daughter and began training in her passion: make-up.

Yousra Jellam (Morocco, 21 years old) is one of the first participants in the Más Empleo (More Employment) programme run by the Málaga-based organisation CODENAF. Thanks to this initiative, promoted by the European Social Fund Plus and the ”la Caixa” Foundation to improve the employability of people in vulnerable situations, Yousra trained in Home Hygiene and Health Care Assistance. Today she works at Atende, a company specialising in social care services, where she has now been employed for a year.

With his way of speaking, Mohamed Dari (Vic, 2004) conveys a maturity that does not seem appropriate for his age. The same maturity he has applied to his academic career, especially when the scarcity of financial resources has not made it easy for him. He explains his story in a classroom at the Faculty of Computer Science at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, where he is currently studying Informatics Engineering thanks to a bachelor fellowship from the ”la Caixa” Foundation, which helps excellent students with limited financial resources.

12.12.24Young people in Amazonia turn banana surpluses into jobs and sustainability
In the Peruvian Amazon, the banana value chain is one of the most significant. Annual production is estimated at between 30 and 40 million tonnes, 30% of which is classified as third-grade, making it unsellable. Until recently, these bananas were either used for personal consumption or discarded, along with the plant’s vegetive waste. Within the framework of the Work4Progress programme of the ”la Caixa” Foundation and with the support of the CODESPA Foundation, two circular economy projects led by young indigenous people are now transforming this waste into employment and sustainability.
